The Woman Behind the Work

Sylvana

Woman. Empath. Human.

Before I am a therapist, I am a woman who has lived, learned, struggled, grown and continues to discover more about herself along the way. I know that life is rarely linear, and that behind the person we show the world, there is often a story that no one else sees.

I value honesty, depth and genuine human connection. I believe in creating a space where you can take off the mask, speak openly and feel accepted without having to explain, minimise or justify every part of yourself.

What I bring is more than professional knowledge. It is curiosity, compassion, intuition and a genuine interest in people - in who they are beneath the surface, what has shaped them, what they carry and who they are becoming. I do not see people as problems to be fixed or labels to be defined by. I see the whole person - their experiences, strengths, struggles, hopes and capacity for change.

And outside of my professional life, I am a mum of two who finds joy in experiencing life. I love travelling and discovering new places, yoga and movement, spending time in nature, and the quiet moments that bring me back to myself. I value experiences over perfection, curiosity over certainty, and making space for the things that bring a sense of connection, joy and being fully present in my own life.

The Journey That Changed Me

For a long time, I thought being strong meant carrying everything on my own.

Growing up, I learned to adapt, to hold things together and to put my own needs somewhere in the background. Later in life, I found myself repeating patterns I didn’t fully understand - in the way I saw myself, the way I responded to difficult emotions, the choices I made, and the ways I connected with both myself and others.

There were periods when anxiety and fear felt overwhelming. Times when I struggled with my sense of self-worth, felt disconnected from myself, lost in my own thoughts, and unsure how to move forward. I found myself making choices that didn’t always reflect who I truly was or what I truly needed. I became caught in patterns that were difficult to understand at the time, and turned to unhealthy ways of coping that, for a while, helped me escape what I didn’t yet know how to face.

But eventually, I began to ask different questions.

Not “What is wrong with me?”
But “What happened to me? What do I need? And how can I learn to do things differently?”

That question changed the direction of my life.

I started therapy, and for the first time, I experienced what it was like to have a space where I could begin to understand myself rather than simply try to hold everything together. Therapy became an important part of my own healing and, somewhere along the way, I realised that I wanted to understand people on a deeper level and support others in the same way.

That curiosity led me to study Psychology, giving me the academic foundation to understand human behaviour and the many factors that shape our thoughts, emotions and actions.

Alongside my studies, I discovered Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy after experiencing the power of self-hypnosis in my own life. For the first time, I began to understand how deeply rooted patterns could be changed, how our responses to difficult situations could shift, and how this could transform the way we feel and behave. The impact it had on my own life made me realise that this was the approach I wanted to work with - not only as part of my own journey, but as a way of helping others create the kind of change I had experienced myself.

The more I learned about Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, the more I recognised its strong connection with Positive Psychology,  both focusing not only on what we want to move away from, but also on the person we want to become and the life we want to create. This naturally led me to complete my MSc in Positive Psychology & Wellbeing, deepening my understanding of wellbeing, resilience, strengths, self-worth and meaningful change.

Alongside psychology and personal development, my own journey has also deepened my connection with mindfulness and spirituality. I believe that wellbeing is not only about how we think or what we achieve. It can also be about how we relate to ourselves, what gives our lives meaning, what we believe in, and how connected we feel to something greater than ourselves.

For me, healing and growth have never been about becoming perfect.

They have been about becoming more aware. More compassionate towards myself. More connected to who I am and what truly matters to me.

Along the way, I have continued to learn, train and grow. But some of the most important things I have learned did not come from a textbook.

They came from experience.

I know what it feels like to struggle. To lose yourself in relationships. To question your own worth. To live with fear and anxiety. To have periods when getting out of bed feels harder than it should, when life feels heavy and finding the motivation to face another day can feel almost impossible. To use unhealthy ways of coping because, at the time, they felt like the only way to get through.

And I also know that change is possible.

Today, I bring together my academic knowledge, professional training and lived experience to create the kind of space I once needed myself - a space where you do not have to hide, minimise what you are feeling or have all the answers. Where you can be completely honest, feel genuinely understood, and begin to make sense of the parts of yourself that may have felt confusing for a long time.

I am here to help you break patterns that are no longer serving you, develop healthier habits and responses, move through anxiety and low mood, rebuild your self-worth, reconnect with who you are, and create meaningful change that reaches beyond the therapy room and into your everyday life.

I don’t believe you need to become a different person to heal.

Sometimes, the journey is about coming back to yourself.

My Professional Journey

My professional journey has never been about collecting qualifications. Each step has come from a genuine desire to understand people more deeply, to understand what creates lasting change, and to keep growing in a field I have become deeply passionate about.

From Psychology and Counselling Skills, through Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and professional practice with the NCH, to my MSc in Positive Psychology & Wellbeing - each stage has added another layer to the way I work today.

Together, they have shaped the way I see this work - bringing together what I have learned, what I have experienced, and what I genuinely care about.

Qualifications

2021-2024

BSc (Hons) Psychology - First Class Honours
London Metropolitan University

This is where my deeper fascination with the human mind began - understanding why we think, feel and behave the way we do. Psychology gave me the foundation on which I could build everything that followed.

2023-2024

TQUK Level 2 Counselling Skills RQF

Along the way, I began to understand that knowledge is only one part of helping someone. Learning counselling skills taught me the importance of listening without judgement, creating safety, and giving someone the space to speak honestly about what they are carrying. It reinforced something I now consider central to my work: sometimes, being truly heard can be the first step towards change.

Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
Solution Focused Training Academy (SFTA)

This was a significant turning point in my journey. After experiencing the power of self-hypnosis in my own life, I became fascinated by the relationship between the conscious and subconscious mind and discovered an approach that felt deeply aligned with the way I wanted to work. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy showed me that meaningful change does not always begin with looking further into the past — sometimes it begins with understanding where you are now, deciding where you want to go, and discovering what is already within you to help you get there.

MSc Positive Psychology & Wellbeing - Distinction
Liverpool John Moores University

My MSc in Positive Psychology & Wellbeing was a natural extension of my work in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. I wanted to deepen my understanding of what helps people move beyond simply managing difficulties and towards greater wellbeing, resilience, confidence and a more meaningful life. It has allowed me to explore the science behind positive change and bring that knowledge into the way I support my clients.

NCH Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma
National Council for Hypnotherapy

For me, this represented the transition from training into professional practice. It required me to demonstrate both theoretical understanding and practical application through assessment and documented case studies - bringing together the knowledge, skills and experience I had developed along the way. More than another qualification, it represented a commitment to maintaining a high professional standard in the work I do with my clients.

My work is built not only on what I have studied, but on the standards I choose to uphold as a practitioner. Professional membership, registration and safeguarding are an important part of creating a practice that feels safe, ethical and trustworthy.
